3GT Lexus suffers heavy damage in Road America warmup crash
3GT Racing’s Jack Hawksworth suffered a heavy impact in his No. 15 Lexus RC F GT3 during the morning warmup session ahead of this afternoon’s Continental Road Race Showcase at Road America. The Briton was unable to adequately stop his GT Daytona machine on entry to the brake zone for Turn 8 and made hard contact with the nose of the V8-powered sedan.
Hawksworth appeared to be uninjured and was seen conversing with teammates shortly after the crash. With the front of the chassis absorbing all of the energy, most of the components ahead of the engine were destroyed and the subframe was badly bent.
With a matter of hours left before the race, repairing the car to take part in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round looks unlikely.
