Jones tops second Kentucky practice

Erik Jones ran a lap of 187.748mph in final Cup Series practice to sit atop the leaderboard at Kentucky Speedway.

The rest of the top five was led by Ryan Blaney at 187.311mph, who was also second-fastest in Friday’s first practice session. Kyle Busch ran 186.503mph, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clocked in at 185.982 mph, and fifth was Austin Dillon at 185.714mph.

Darrell Wallace Jr. (185.357mph), Clint Bowyer (185.312mph), Daniel Suarez (185.179mph), Aric Almirola (185.179mph) and Chase Elliott (185.090mph) completed the top 10.

A split between teams continuing to fine-tune their cars for the race and those doing mock qualifying runs ahead of tonight’s qualifying session made for an interesting leaderboard.

Kevin Harvick was 12th fastest and Martin Truex Jr. 14th. Kyle Larson was 25th on the board after being fastest in the early practice session.

Their were no incidents in the 50-minute session.

UP NEXT: Qualifying at 6:40 p.m. ET.
