Dixon stays ahead in second Toronto practice

Scott Dixon maintained his early mastery of Exhibition Place on Friday by leading the second practice period and putting a half a second on the field.

After posting the best lap of the morning session, Dixon threw down a lap of 59.0751s in the PNC Honda during the 45-minute practice that was again dominated by Honda-powered drivers.

Takuma Sato was second quickest at 59.5117s in the RLL Panasonic Honda, followed by Marco Andretti at 59.5277s in the Circle K Honda and Graham Rahal at 59.5308s in the Rousseau Honda. Alex Rossi was fifth fastest at 59.5846s in the NAPA Honda.

Spencer Pigot, fresh off the first podium of his IndyCar career, led the Chevrolet teams by posting the sixth-best lap of 59.6350s in the Preferred Freezer Chevy. Conor Daly, subbing for Gabby Chaves at Harding Racing, was a respectable 17th in its Chevy-powered entry.

There was on red flag when Rahal spun exiting Turn 11 but he didn’t hit anything and Ryan Hunter-Reay knocked his right-front tire off his wheel after brushing the wall.
