Formula 4 U.S. team Abel Motorsports will make its USF2000 debut at Road America this weekend.
Jacob Abel, who pilots one of the team’s F4 entries, will drive the car, which he shook down for a day at Putnam Park before joining last week’s official series test at Road America.
“We want to finish as high as we can,” said Abel, who made his maiden USF2000 appearance in a one-off with Newman Wachs at Mid-Ohio last year. “A top ten would be a good weekend for us, considering how little time we have with the car and how much we have to learn.”
Team principal Bill Abel said that the weekend is intended as an important step in the outfit’s development.
“Our whole goal is to become a top-shelf open-wheel race team,” he said. “We’re building and growing quickly to reach that goal. There’s a bit of a lull in the schedule this month in the series where we compete regularly, so we thought getting into USF2000 and the Road to Indy now was a really good idea. It’s a good way to give Jacob more quality seat time.”
