Rain scrambles NASCAR Open qualifying
Scattered rain showers canceled qualifying for the Monster Energy Open at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, putting Aric Almirola
(pictured) on the pole. Almirola will be joined on the front row by Erik Jones. Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman and Chase Elliott will make up row tow.
The line-up for the 50-lap race was set by owner points.
The Open will advance four drivers into the All-Star Race to compete for the $1 million prize. Split into three segments of 20 laps, 20 laps, and 10 laps, winners of each segment will automatically lock into the big race. The fourth driver will be decided by a fan vote. Chase Elliott won the fan vote last year.
Both the Open and the All-Star Race will run Saturday night, with the Open taking place at 6 p.m. and the All-Star Race slated for approximately 8 p.m.
