'Days of Thunder' moment for 'Rowdy Burns' at Richmond

Some "Days of Thunder" memories were stoked last weekend at Richmond Raceway. Michael Rooker – the actor who played Rowdy Burns in the 1990 NASCAR-themed movie that starred Tom Cruise – served as the honorary driver of the pace car for Saturday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, and so Kyle Busch kidded Martin Truex Jr. that he should hit the pace car during Rooker's turn at the wheel. Since LAT Photographic had a camera mounted on the back of the pace car, it was able to record the fun.

No mark on the bumper of the Camry pace car was visible afterward but as this image shows, if he didn't hit it, he came awfully close!
