Ex-F1 driver Maldonado to make WEC debut with DragonSpeed
Former Williams and Lotus Formula 1 driver Pastor Maldonado will make his sports car racing debut this year, in the 2018/19 FIA WEC Super Season with American-flagged team DragonSpeed.
The Venezualen will pilot the team's LMP2 class ORECA 07 Gibson in what the team has told RACER is a "full-season deal." Maldonado has had no known running in a sports prototype prior to this deal, though he did appear at the FIA WEC Prologue last year. There he was linked to drives with Manor and ByKolles; though an agreement wasn't reached with either team.
He will drive alongside previously confirmed Mexican driver Roberto Gonzalez for the season, and an un-announced third driver.
DragonSpeed has explained to RACER that its third LMP2 driver will be announced soon, the news teased by team principal Elton Julian as: "another big surprise."
