Repaired Shank Acura leads GTD in Sebring warm-up

By

Michael Shank Racing’s No. 93 Acura NSX GT3 was finally back on track Saturday morning at Sebring International Raceway, with the car fastest in the GT Daytona class in the warm-up session for today’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Justin Marks encountered a rear brake problem with the car and spun into a tire barrier during Thursday’s second practice session. Marks was unhurt, but the car sustained heavy front-end damage as the car pushed back a concrete barrier after impacting a tire wall. With the car’s participation in doubt, the team spent the remainder of Thursday and all of Friday making repairs. The work paid off, as Lawson Aschenbach went on to pace GTD in the warm-up with a lap of 2m00.784s.

Ricky Taylor (pictured) was fastest in Saturday’s 20-minute warm-up, running 1m48.375s in the No. 7 Team Penske Acura ARX-05, followed by the Tequila Patron ESM Nissan Onroak DPis of Pipo Derani (1m49.457s) and Ryan Dalziel (1m49.694s). Jesse Krohn led GTLM, 1m57.741 in the No. 24 RLL BMW M8 GTLM.

Thirty-eight of the 43 qualifiers participated in the session.
