Formula 1 has revealed its plans for an over the top (OTT) subscription service called F1 TV that will allow fans to stream all races live.
Described as “F1’s biggest investment in its digital transformation to date,” the service will be two-tier, with users being able to choose between a premium F1 TV Pro offering and the less-expensive F1 TV Access.
On F1 TV Pro, along with commercial-free live streams of each practice, qualifying and race – featuring commentary in English, French, German and Spanish – subscribers will have access to all 20 on-board cameras throughout a race. Press conferences and pre- and post-race interviews will also be available, as well as live races from the main support series including FIA Formula 2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup.
The OTT service will be available in nearly two dozen markets at launch – including the USA, Mexico, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Hungary and much of Latin America – and initially offered on desktop and web, with mobile and TV apps being phased in on Amazon, Apple and Android. F1 TV Pro will be priced between $8-12 USD per month.
F1 TV Access will be offered “on a near-global basis” and will include live race timing data and radio commentary, extended highlights of each session from the race weekend and what is described as “unprecedented access” to archive F1 video content.
Frank Arthofer, director of digital and new business at Formula 1, says the offering is targeted at providing even better coverage of the sport for its existing fanbase.
