Newman leads final Atlanta Cup practice

Ryan Newman was fastest in final Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Atlanta with a lap of 184.868mph.

It was an uneventful 1 hour, 20-minute session in preparation for tomorrow afternoon's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. NASCAR has

moved the race start time

up one hour to 1 p.m. ET as the weather is anticipated to be a factor throughout the day.

Winding up second through fifth in final practice were Martin Truex Jr. (184.597mph), Paul Menard (184.566mph), Denny Hamlin (183.564mph), and Joey Logano (183.303mph). Reigning series champion Truex lost 30 minutes of practice as a carryover penalty from failing pre-qualifying inspection three times Friday night. He starts 35th in the race.

Jimmie Johnson was sixth-fastest in practice at 182.602mph. Chris Buescher was seventh at 182.243mph with Ryan Blaney eighth fastest at 182.051mph. Clint Bowyer (181.699mph) and Darrell Wallace Jr. (181.076mph) completed the top 10.

Pole-sitter Kyle Busch was 15th in the session at 180.369mph.

Defending race winner Brad Keselowski ended up 29th fastest at 176.521mph.
