Reigning Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato unveiled the ticket for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Thursday.
This year’s version features blue and red foil stamped with a sculptural emboss on Sato’s image.
“It’s amazing feeling,” he said. “To be honest, it’s been an absolutely amazing journey. Since last year when I won the Indy 500, every single month there is an event. This is the final official event. … Seeing the ticket like this, my face on the ticket, this is unbelievable. I can’t imagine over 300,000 people carrying this ticket in May.”
The ceremony was held at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis. Joining Sato were Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, Hulman & Company President and CEO Mark Miles, IMS President Doug Boles and Hulman Motorsports Senior Vice President of Events Allison Melangton.
The 102nd Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil is scheduled for Sunday, May 27 at IMS.
