The use of Balance of Performance methods to equalize different sports car models is rarely spoken of in warm and friendly terms. It made tracing the roots of BoP, which has become a normal part of life in sprint and endurance competition, a topic worth exploring with renowned race engineer Jeff Braun.
Braun, whose experience dates back to the glory days of IMSA’s GTP series, and RACER’s Marshall Pruett dive into the modern origins and evolution of BoP, its place – or misplaced use – with current GTs and Prototypes, and what it would take for a series like IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to part ways with BoP in the future.

The 2021 season marks Marshall Pruett's 35th year working in the sport. In his role today for RACER, Pruett covers open-wheel and sports car racing as a writer, reporter, photographer, and filmmaker.
