Matt Tifft doesn’t come from a racing family – business is more the Tifft family style. However, Matt still wound up bit by the racing bug at an early age, and eventually, he needed to persuade his parents as to why motorsports would be a good career path. Specifically, mom Vicki Tifft, who had Matt take a unique approach to getting his point across.
“It took her a while to get on the train, so to speak,” Tifft says in this week’s podcast with Kelly Crandall. “She’s a businesswoman, so when I first got into it I actually had to write her a proposal for why I should do racing.”
Tifft has risen from dirt racing and go-karts through ARCA, dabbling in the Camping World Truck Series, and now he takes on his second full season in the Xfinity Series as the new driver of Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Chevrolet.
