Action Express passes Rolex 24 11,000 lap milestone
Action Express Racing recorded a milestone early Saturday evening. At the completion of lap 155, the team recorded its 11,000th lap in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Christian Fittipaldi was at the wheel of the No.5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V.R, which has been dominating the 2018 race, while Mike Conway was eighth in the No.31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac.
"It's great to hear we've done 11,000 laps, but I'm thinking we've got another 600 to go until tomorrow," said team manager Gary Nelson. "That's quite a testament to all the preparation the guys put in. We work day and night at the shop – so we don't have to work at the track. Our philosophy is do the work at the shop and show everyone how we've done at the track. That's a heck of a lot of laps. I've sat here watching most of them, and I'm looking forward to seeing some more."
The team made a winning debut in the 2010 Rolex 24, with Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Ryan Dalziel and Mike Rockenfeller sharing a Porsche Riley Daytona Prototype. AXR added a second Rolex 24 triumph in 2014, with Fittipaldi, Barbosa and Sebastien Bourdais at the wheel.
Action Express has logged 39,500 miles in the event – roughly one-and-a-half laps around the globe.
