NASCAR denies France interest in NFL's Panthers

By

NASCAR is denying a report by WCNC in Charlotte, N.C., that Chairman Brian France (pictured) is part of a group looking to buy the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers.

“NASCAR denies the accuracy of the WCNC report. Brian France is not involved,” read the statement to NBC Sports. NASCAR has not responded to the request for comment from RACER.

Wednesday night WCNC reported that sources were claiming France is part of the group looking to buy the Panthers and that France would be the majority owner. The Panthers will go up for sale after their last game of the season (they play the New Orleans Saints this weekend in the Wild Card Round of the NFL playoffs).

WCNC reported last month that Felix Sabates is also looking to form a group to purchase the team.

Current Panthers team owner Jerry Richardson is selling the team after a December piece in Sports Illustrated revealed settlements had been reached with four former employees following allegations of workplace misconduct that included sexual harassment and the use of racially insensitive language.
