Neel Jani and Dragon Racing have parted ways after two races.
“As a result of changes that were unforeseen, Dragon Racing and I have decided that it is in the best interest for the future of the team and myself that we end our alliance,” Jani said in a statement. “I would like to thank Dragon Racing for giving me the opportunity to experience Formula E, and I wish them all the best for the continuing season.”
Jani was set to embark on a new path in Formula E upon Porsche’s exit from the WEC at the end of 2017. But days after Jani was announced by the team in August, Dragon Racing parted with technical partner Faraday Future, and a reported partnership agreement with Porsche did not come to fruition.
Jani is set to compete with Rebellion Racing in the World Endurance Championship in LMP1, marking his return to the team with which he won the 2016 FIA WEC drivers’ championship.
Maximilian Gunther and Andrea Caldarelli have been named as Dragon Racing’s representatives for the upcoming Formula E rookie test on Jan. 14 in Marrakesh.
