Barfield adds IMSA Prototype Challenge to director duties

Beaux Barfield will continue as race director for IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and add the burgeoning Prototype Challenge to the list of series he’ll oversee in 2018.

In another change, previous Prototype Challenge race director Elliott Forbes-Robinson will move from a race steward to serving as an IMSA-wide driver observer.

“The addition of Beaux to the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda team will be invaluable as the series shifts to a new endurance race format this season,” said IMSA competition VP Simon Hodgson. “His experience in Race Control combined with the support of Mark Raffauf, driver stewards and fellow race directors will ensure we maintain consistency of officiating throughout all IMSA platforms. This combined with Elliott’s presence in the paddock as a legendary former driver and respected voice gives our IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda competitors two veteran IMSA officials to lean on as the series enters a new and highly anticipated era.”

And after the WeatherTech Championship and Prototype Challenge categories, Kyle Novak, IMSA’s rising talent within its race director ranks, will carry an exceptional workload administering the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama.

Todd Snyder will hold an important supporting role in race control with the Ferrari Challenge North America and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championships.
