With the Sao Paulo race moving to season five of the FIA Formula E Championship, the all-electric street racing series will instead return to the streets of Punta del Este in Uruguay on March 17, 2018. The Punta del Este race was confirmed during the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris.
Uruguay hosted races in the series’ first two seasons. Sebastien Buemi won both races with Renault e.dams in 2014 and 2015. The 1.73-mile track features 20 turns running the length of the Playa Brava Beach seafront.
“It’s the most unique track,” Buemi said. “With a lot of quick, tight chicanes. It’s a very high-speed circuit, which I enjoy.”
The Sao Paulo race was postponed at the request of city authorities due to “an ongoing process of privatization of the Anhembi Park venue.”
