JR Motorsports scrambles as travel strands pit crews

By

The three JR Motorsports drivers in the thick of the Xfinity Series championship will be without most of their pit crews after a travel situation stranded them in Arkansas.

NBC Sports reports the pit crews for William Byron, Justin Allgaier and Elliott Sadler – most of whom are from Hendrick Motorsports (including Jimmie Johnson’s crew, which pits Byron) – were on a plane that made an emergency stop in Arkansas early Saturday and will not make it to Phoenix in time for this afternoon’s race.

JR Motorsports was scrambling to assemble crews from a variety of sources, including those already at the track on road crews.

NBC Sports reported the possibility that the crew that normally pits JJ Yeley’s 14 TriStar Motorsports Toyota, located just a few pit stalls down from Byron, might be forced to crew for both. They would pit Byron first and bring Yeley into the pits when they were able.

The three drivers occupy the top three spots in the Xfinity Series standings, with Byron trailing Sadler by five points and Allgaier four points behind Byron.
