Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato met with two heads of state Monday during a dinner hosted in his native Japan. The new Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver posed for a picture with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie, and United States President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump in an event organized by the Abes.
It’s the first time a reigning Indy 500 winner has met with a sitting president in many years. In a shared piece of RLLR history, 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice met with George W. Bush at the White House (below, image courtesy of Borg-Warner) along with team co-owner Bobby Rahal and Indy Racing League founder Tony George.
