Larson fast again in Kansas practice

Kyle Larson might not have laid down the qualifying lap he was looking for but the No. 42 Chevrolet continues to be fast in practice at Kansas Speedway.

At the top of the leaderboard in the opening session, Larson backed that up in the 50-minute practice Saturday morning. At 181.671 mph Larson – who will start 13th Sunday – topped the chart ahead of Kevin Harvick, who clocked in at 181.586 mph.

Rookie Daniel Suarez was third fastest at 181.513 mph. Paul Menard (181.269 mph) and Clint Bowyer (181.178 mph) completed the top five. There were no incidents in the session.

Ryan Blaney was sixth fastest at 181.038 mph. The Saturday practice sessions will be valuable for Blaney and the No. 21 team as they prepare to come from the rear of the field in the Hollywood Casino 400 as they seek to advance in the playoffs. Friday night,

Blaney's qualifying time was disallowed

after the car failed post-qualifying inspection and he will start 40th.
Chris Buescher was seventh fastest at 180.983 mph. Kyle Busch was eighth fastest at 180.941 mph. Matt Kenseth, 180.935 mph, and

polesitter Martin Truex Jr.

, 180.923 mph, rounded out the top 10.

Eleventh on the chart was Jamie McMurray, who ran the most laps in the session at 37. McMurray is the last driver currently on the playoff grid and must overcome a 29-point deficit if he's to advance to the Round of 8.

UP NEXT: Final practice at 1:30 p.m. ET.
