Larson leads as Earnhardt, Kyle Busch bend metal in Charlotte practice
With a lap of 192.082 mph, Kyle Larson was fastest in an eventful opening practice session at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch both were dealt setbacks for Sunday's race after hitting the wall in Turn 4. Earnhardt said his car did not react well to the PJ1 that had been applied to the track and his car "took off into the fence."
The No. 18 of Busch appeared to react in the same way. Busch drifted up the track in nearly the same place as Earnhardt and suffered heavy right-side damage.

Brad Keselowski's team is making repairs to his car after Keselowski went for a half-spin in Turn 4 and was unable to keep his No. 2 Ford off the wall.
David Ragan also brushed the wall during the session. Fluid on the track was also one reason the 1 hour, 25-minute practice was halted.
Second fastest to Larson was Ryan Newman. Newman ran a lap of 191.442 mph. Completing the top five were Kevin Harvick (191.225 mph), Denny Hamlin (191.137 mph), and Chase Elliott (191.090 mph).
The rest of the top 10 were Ryan Blaney (190.853 mph), Martin Truex Jr. (190.772 mph), Michael McDowell (190.766 mph), Jamie McMurray (190.658 mph), and Kurt Busch (190.590 mph).
