
Elliott fastest in final Dover practice
Hendrick Motorsports teammates Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson led the way in final Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice Saturday afternoon at Dover.
Elliott was the fastest, putting down a lap of 157.363mph. Johnson's best lap was 156.904 mph. Both drivers are championship-eligible and sit comfortably above the cutoff line going into Sunday's race. And as Elliott still seeks his first career win, Johnson, who won at Dover in June, will go for his 12th victory at the track.
Results
Third fastest was Kevin Harvick at 156.897mph. Kyle Larson was fourth fastest at 156.658mph. Kyle Busch completed the top five at 156.631mph. Busch also ran the most laps in the session at 80.
The rest of the top 10 were Jamie McMurray (156.603mph), Denny Hamlin (155.966mph), Kasey Kahne (155.959mph), Ryan Blaney (155.925mph) and Daniel Suarez (155.851mph).
There were no incidents in the 55-minute session. However, there were once again practice holds that needed to be served, including for playoff drivers.
For failing pre-race inspection twice at last weekend at New Hampshire, Kasey Kahne sat for 15 minutes. Also serving 15 minutes for failing qualifying inspection twice on Friday at Dover was Austin Dillon, Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman and Martin Truex Jr.
Sitting for 30 minutes were Matt Kenseth and Kyle Larson. Kenseth failed pre-race inspection at New Hampshire twice and then qualifying inspection at Dover twice. Larson failed Dover qualifying inspection three times.
