Hamlin, who is sponsored by the delivery company FedEx, did indeed earn a fourth-place finish in Sunday's Tales of the Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. In doing so, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver placed fourth for the sixth time in 27 races this season.
Not that Hamlin and his No. 11 team will mind. A top-five finish kicks off Hamlin's championship campaign on the right foot, and he continues to build momentum at the right time. With Sunday's race, Hamlin is now working on four consecutive top-five finishes, which includes a win at Darlington.
Hardly a factor for the victory Sunday as Toyota stablemate Martin Truex Jr. had the field covered, Hamlin – who won at Chicagoland in 2015 – started second and had a solid, quiet run inside the top five.
"It was about a fourth-place car – the 18 [teammate Kyle Busch] was very strong at the beginning," Hamlin said. "We just hung around the top five or six at worst and third at best. Finished about right where we should have."
