HPD reports NSX GT3 customer sales
Honda Performance Developments reports three of its new Acura NSX GT3 models have been sold to customer teams.
Using 2017 as a racing and development season for the rear-engine coupe in IMSA's GT Daytona class within the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the GT category in the Pirelli World Challenge series, HPD recently announced plans to make the twin-turbo V6-powered machines available for purchase. The initial interest, according to HPD CEO Art St. Cyr, has been encouraging.
"We announced in Mid-Ohio that we are turning that program into a customer program, and to date I think we have had three sales, globally, of that car," he said. "We are having a production run of those vehicles right now that we will be selling to customers, hopefully next year."
At present, HPD is evaluating how many NSX GT3s will be manufactured and sold for 2018.
"I'm not sure how many there will be or where they will be, but it's a big step in HPD's development that we homologated a global specification, so that car is able to run in any GT3 series around the world right now," he said. "We are actively marketing that vehicle, and we are looking for customers to race that vehicle successfully next year."
