Rossi to miss Misano MotoGP due to injury

Valentino Rossi will have to sit out at least one round of the MotoGP championship while his leg fractures heal, his Movistar Yamaha team has confirmed. Yamaha has decided not to replace Rossi for the race at Misano next weekend, and will instead field a single bike for Maverick Vinales.

The nine-time MotoGP champion was involved in an accident during training last Thursday, breaking the tibia and fibula of his right leg. He was released from the hospital on Saturday after undergoing surgeries to repair the fractures.

"I spent a good night, I slept, and this morning I felt good," Rossi said after being discharged from the hospital. "The doctors visited me and they gave me the OK to go home, where I'll be able to rest even better. I will begin the rehabilitation as soon as possible and we'll see how my body reacts before making any decisions.

"I will do everything I can to get back as soon as possible."

The next MotoGP round after Misano is at the Aragon circuit in Spain on Sept. 24.
