Harvey in at SPM for The Glen, Sonoma

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has called up Jack Harvey to complete the season in the No. 7 Honda. The Briton, who scored a pair of runner-up finishes in the Indy Lights championship while driving for SPM, will take over Mikhail Aleshin's former ride at Watkins Glen and Sonoma Raceway.

Harvey made his IndyCar debut in May at the Indy 500 driving a joint entry from Michael Shank Racing with Andretti Autosport and was close to driving a fifth Andretti entry at Sonoma until the recent vacancy in SPM's No. 7.

"A lot of people expected us to do Sonoma with Andretti," Harvey told RACER. "When [SPM] announced Mikhail wasn't going to finish the season, they came to us with a deal to do Watkins Glen and Sonoma, and it was a chance to do an extra race."

According to Harvey, the Andretti team was more than understanding about the change in direction.

"The race my sponsors Auto Nation and Sirius/XM wanted to finish off this year was Sonoma, but with two races on offer from Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson, we thought it was the better chance to pursue. With Andretti, it was a one-race deal and they understood it was hard to pass up two races with [SPM]."

Harvey turned his first laps in an IndyCar with SPM in 2015, and with his Indy Lights experience gained within the team, the upcoming races in New York and California should feel like a homecoming.

"I'm happy to go back to SPM  they've been fast this year and I did my first IndyCar test with them, so this is really just me slotting in with the great group they have that I've been around since I came to America to race," he said. "We're working on momentum for next year and want to be full-time in IndyCar, so this is a great way to keep that momentum going."
