Smith on standby for Hamlin at Watkins Glen

Regan Smith has been placed on standby for Denny Hamlin ahead of this weekend's Cup race at Watkins Glen while the Joe Gibbs racer and girlfriend Jordan Fish await the arrival of their second child.

Smith, who has previously been called upon to stand in for Aric Almirola, Dale Earmhardt Jr, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Kyle Larson, will drive the No.11 JGR Toyota if Fish goes into labor.

Hamlin is the defending winner at Watkins Glen, and has already secured a Playoffs berth with his win at New Hampshire in July.

Smith's best Cup finish at the venue is a ninth place with Furniture Row Racing in 2011.
