TV Ratings: Pocono, Hungary, Mid-Ohio

After

a big gain last week

with the Brickyard 400, NASCAR declined in TV audience for last Sunday's Overton's 400 at Pocono, although the Monster Energy Cup race topped all sports telecasts for the weekend. The race scored a 2.2 rating on NBCSN, averaging 3.7 million viewers. That's down about 15% from 2015 (last year's race was postponed by rain to Monday, making comparisons moot).

The Xfinity Series standalone race from Iowa on Saturday night on NBCSN scored a 1.14/1.7m viewers, compared with a 0.64/1.0m last year, while the Camping World Truck Series, making a broadcast network appearance on FOX, scored a 0.6/881,000. That's up  but not by much, interestingly  from last year's race on FOX Sports 1 (0.51/775,000)

With the Tour de France done, Formula 1 is back on NBCSN for live telecasts and Sunday morning's Hungarian Grand Prix scored a 0.35 and averaged 508,000 viewers. That's almost identical to the the numbers from the German GP run on this date last year on NBCSN (0.33/506,000).

The Verizon IndyCar Series, on the other hand, was pushed off to CNBC for its live telecast from Mid-Ohio because of the simultaneous NASCAR race on NBCSN. Numbers for that were not available, but the subsequent post-NASCAR replay on NBCSN scored a 0.39/576,000. That compares with a 0.55/811,000 in 2016, when it aired live on NBCSN.

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series continued its run of live broadcast network airings of its finals with Sonoma on FOX Sports 1, but this time that put it in direct competition with NASCAR and IndyCar, and the result was a 0.23/363,000  well down from last year's 0.65/998,000, when it benefited from NASCAR Cup's rainout.
