
TV Ratings: NBC's IndyCar, F1 viewership change
Viewership of IndyCar and Formula 1 races is up in 2017.
According to NBC Sports, through six races (not including Toronto), NBCSN's coverage of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series has averaged 474,000 viewers to rank as NBCSN's most-watched IndyCar season on record, up 16 percent compared to 2016 (408,000). Sunday's Honda Indy Toronto on CNBC earned a 0.16 overnight, up from 0.14 in 2016. The night-time re-air on NBCSN earned a 0.33 rating and averaged 489,000 viewers. Last year's race drew a 0.34 rating and 530,000 viewers.
Through nine races (excluding the British Grand Prix), NBC Sports Group's 2017 Formula 1 coverage has averaged 579,000 viewers, also up 16 percent versus the same point in 2016 (eight races, 498,000). The British Grand Prix earned a 0.27 rating and 452,000 average viewers on CNBC.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drew a 1.95 average rating, 3.2 million viewers and a 1.84 overnight rating for the Overton's 301 at New Hampshire on NBCSN, down slightly from a 2.0 in 2016, according to SportsBusiness Journal.
The Xfinity Series race scored a 0.77 and 1.165 million viewers for Saturday afternoon's race on NBCSN, relatively flat compared to the 0.76/1.165 million viewers in 2016.
The inaugural FIA Formula E New York City ePrix saw a 0.33 rating and 477,000 average viewers tune in on Fox for Sunday's race. Saturday's ratings were not available.
