Busch leads final Cup practice at New Hampshire
Kyle Busch was fastest in final Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice Saturday afternoon at New Hampshire with a lap of 130.950 mph.
Approaching the one-year anniversary of his last win (Indianapolis), Busch will line up seventh in the Overton's 301 (Sunday, 3 p.m. ET, NBCSN). Busch is a two-time winner at New Hampshire.
Polesitter Martin Truex Jr. was second fastest in the session. Truex put down a lap of 130.568 mph. Denny Hamlin was third fastest also with a lap of 130.568 mph. Kyle Larson was fourth fastest at 130.514 mph and Chase Elliott was fifth fastest at 130.474 mph.
Larson lost 30 minutes of the 55-minute session because he had to serve a penalty. The No. 42 sat on pit road when the session went green because the car failed pre-race inspection last week at Kentucky Speedway. After making just one run, Larson told NBCSN he didn't feel the car was very good.
"It's probably big, but it's probably good for my attitude because I would be double as frustrated if I had another run to do," Larson said of the penalty. "I don't know. We'll work on it and get it better."
Others who also lost 30 minutes of practice were Erik Jones, Clint Bowyer, and Jeffrey Earnhardt.
Jimmie Johnson (130.394 mph) was sixth fastest, Daniel Suarez (130.349 mph) was seventh fastest, Ryan Blaney (130.287 mph) was eighth fastest, Matt Kenseth was ninth fastest (130.278 mph), and Jones (130.238 mph) was 10th fastest.
There were no incidents in the session.
