
Pagenaud, Carpenter fast in final Iowa practice
Simon Pagenaud, who was the first driver to qualify on a scorching hot afternoon, was back on a little more level playing field Saturday evening and paced the final practice for Sunday's Iowa Corn 300.

After qualifying 11th, Pagenaud threw in the fastest lap of the final 30-minute hot-lap session with a 17.918s (179.617mph) in his Menards Chevy – just a tick quicker than Ed Carpenter.
Starting Sunday evening's race in the third slot, Carpenter cranked a lap of 17.944s (179.355mph) in his Fuzzy's Chevy and pole-sitter Will Power was third at 18.049 (178.309mph) in his Verizon Chevy.
Point leader Scott Dixon, who starts the race way back in 17th, rallied to post the fourth-best lap of 18.142s (177.398mph) in his NTT Data Honda.
JR Hildebrand, who qualified a career-best second in Carpenter's team car, was 12th on Saturday night at 18.303s (175.840mph).
