
Larson leads second Kentucky Cup practice
Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson swept the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice sessions Friday at Kentucky Speedway.

After McMurray was fastest in the opening practice, Larson topped final practice with a lap of 188.186 mph. Larson was also among the drivers to run the most laps in the 1 hour, 25-minute session (41).

"I thought in race trim we were pretty good," Larson said. "Then we switched to qualifying trim and we were really fast. I was happy with the Target Chevy and hopefully, I guess it doesn't really matter if qualifying rains out or not because we will be on the pole if it rains out.
"If we get to qualify, I still think we will qualify well. We'll see."
There is a good chance thunderstorms will hit the area later in the evening, with qualifying set for 6:15 p.m. ET.
Martin Truex Jr., who ran just nine laps, was second fastest at 187.188 mph. Chase Elliott was third at 186.903 mph; Ryan Blaney was fourth at 186.458 mph; and Kyle Busch was fifth at 186.265 mph.
The 2015 winner at Kentucky, Busch is back to working with crew chief Adam Stevens, who returns this weekend following a four-race suspension.
Jimmie Johnson (186.213 mph), Matt Kenseth (186.091 mph), McMurray (186.091 mph), Darrell Wallace Jr. (185.938 mph) and Clint Bowyer (185.880 mph) completed the top 10.
Defending race winner Brad Keselowski was 15th fastest at 184.868 mph.
There were no incidents during the session.
