Several drivers hospitalized after Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge crash

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge drivers Etienne Borgeat, Trenton Estep and Stephen Tullman were admitted to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a scary multi-car crash in Friday's race at Watkins Glen.

The incident occurred on just the second lap of the race, when Estep and Remo Ruscitti made side-by-side contact and slid into the outer guardrail, blocking enough of the track to create a chain reaction that collected numerous other cars and scattering debris over a wide field. The combined Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA and Canada race was abandoned and will be rescheduled.

Also involved in the wreck were Remo Ruscitti, Alejandro Chahwan, Orey Fidani, Mark Kvamme and Tim Sanderson, who were evaluated and released from the infield care center. Jeff Mosing was taken to the hospital, treated and released. He's been cleared to compete in Saturday's Continental Tire Challenge race.

Estep sent a message from his hospital bed at Syracuse Medical Hospital.

Big thank you to the #imsaracing medical crew and all the guys here at Syracuse Medical Hospital for taking great care of me. Got my self some Michelin Star hospital food and a paddock full of support. Can't ask for anything more. Well, except a new racecar and an approval from the doctor to race today. Good luck to everyone driving today. My prayers are with you and your teams. Thank you Guys. #asiansensation #comeback #PorscheGT3 #HertzRacing #JDXracingA post shared by Trenton Estep (@trenton_estep) on Jul 1, 2017 at 7:29am PDT
