
TV Ratings: NASCAR Michigan, Gateway
Changes in NASCAR's 2017 schedule brought the national series to Michigan and Gateway Motorsports Park this weekend, with Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 carrying the full slate as well as coverage of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Ratings for the 24-hour race are not yet available.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan drew a 1.85 rating and averaged 3.144 million viewers. In 2016, this was an off weekend for Cup, with the Michigan race held on June 12 before the series headed to Sonoma on June 26.
The Xfinity Series was also in a different venue and in a different time slot from 2016. This year's nail-biting finish between Denny Hamlin and William Byron at Michigan drew a 0.75 rating and averaged just over 1.1 million viewers. In 2016, the Xfinity Series ran on Sunday at Iowa, earning a 0.87 rating and just under 1.4 million viewers; the race also began 90 minutes earlier last year than this weekend's Cup race.
Gateway Motorsports Park executive vice president and general manager Chris Blair announced a crowd of more than 16,000 for Saturday night's Camping World Trucks Series race, and the race on FS1 scored a 0.35/502,000 viewers. By comparison, last year's race at Iowa saw a 0.57/898,000 on FS1.
Same-day delayed coverage of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series from Bristol registered a 0.56 rating and averaged 1 million viewers, compared to a 0.50/806,000 viewers the year before.
Sunday's second round of the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series event in Ottawa scored a 0.29/464,000 viewers on NBC.
