Cadillac sweeps top three in IMSA Detroit FP2

The final session prior to qualifying for Saturday's Chevy Sports Car Classic at Detroit's Belle Isle featured three familiar cars atop the field as both Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.Rs and the lone Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac blitzed the rest of the Prototype class.

AXR's Dane Cameron led the Cadillac 1-2-3 with his No. 31 entry (1m23.058s) as the sister No. 5 AXR car driven by Christian Fittipaldi (+0.166s) and Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 WTR DPi-V.R (+0.347s) ignored the new Balance of Performance shackled placed on the thundering V8-powered prototypes.

Visit Florida Racing's Renger van der Zande was best among the WEC-spec LMP2s in fourth (+1.313s), and among the remaining DPi models, Mazda was closest to Cadillac in fifth (+1.423) and Nissan was eighth (+1.949s).

Mexican teenager Pato O'Ward continued his ridiculous lapping to lead the PC class with ease. His No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports entry (1m25.927s) was not only faster than the next car in the category by 1.925s; O'Ward was faster than one of the Nissan Onroak DPis and just 0.637s away from posting the fourth-fastest lap overall.

GT Daytona ended with a shuffled top three as the only carryover from FP1, the No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS GT3, went fastest with Lawson Aschenbach behind the wheel (1m30.352s) and was chased by the No. 75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Tristan Vautier (+0.083s) and Katherine Legge in the No. 93 Michael Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 (+0.183s).
