Rossi cleared for home MotoGP race at Mugello

Valentino Rossi has been declared fit to race this weekend on his home Mugello circuit despite "severe" pain caused by injuries from a motocross training accident.

"The Doctor" underwent a check-up on Thursday and was scheduled to test his Movistar Yamaha YZR-M1 on Friday.

Having won seven straight years at Mugello from 2002-08, Rossi said his desire to race in Italy was pushing him to recover as soon as possible.

"The pain in the abdomen and in the chest is still severe," the Movistar Yamaha team rider said earlier this week. "Fortunately, my condition is improving day by day and this allows me to think a bit more positively about the Mugello weekend."

Rossi suffered mild thoracic and abdominal trauma

a week ago in a training accident

at the Cross Club Cavallera in Mondavio, Italy. He was taken to a local Rimini hospital and released a short time later.
