Dixon expected to return at Detroit with new car
the scariest crash of the month
at Indy, and will need a new No. 9 Honda to be assembled in short order, but his Chip Ganassi Racing team is expecting the New Zealander to resume his championship hunt next weekend in Detroit."I think we'll be fine," CGR managing director Mike Hull told RACER. "He's got something with his ankle, but he'll be OK."

Thanks to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' Jay Howard, who crashed in Turn 1 and drifted into the middle of the track where he was met by Dixon, the Kiwi limped away from the airborne wreckage after he landed in Turn 2. Dixon was taken to the infield care center, released, and soon returned to have further examination done on his ankle. The 2008 Indy 500 winner left the facility in a walking boot to immobilize his injured appendage.
Hull is confident his driver, who leaves Indy fourth in points and just 11 markers behind leader Helio Castroneves, will be ready to race for the Duel in Detroit.
"Our guys will be building a [new] car for [Belle Isle]," he said. "Main thing is we'll have someone to hold onto it."
