TV Ratings: IndyCar Barber, Cup rainout at Bristol
NASCAR earned a 1.5 overnight rating for Monday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Citing Fox Sports, SportsBusiness Journal reports the last time FOX had a Monday makeup race was the Texas spring race in 2014, when it drew a 2.2 rating.
With no schedule competition from NASCAR, the Verizon IndyCar Series drew a 0.39 overnight rating for the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama, averaging 470,000 viewers. That's up from a 0.25 in 2016, according to the SportsBusiness Journal. However, Sports Media Watch reports that IndyCar's 0.2 final rating (321,000 viewers) from Long Beach on NBCSN was "the least-watched edition of the Long Beach race since it became a part of the IndyCar Series schedule in 2008, and the least-watched overall since at least 2006."
NASCAR's Xfinity Series race from Bristol earned a 0.73 (1.08 million viewers), compared to a 0.81 (1.18 million) in 2016.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series finals from Royal Purple Raceway in Houston were flat, drawing a 0.32 (490,000) as it did in 2016 (0.32/475,000).
