Visit Florida IMSA team withdraws after crash

The Visit Florida Racing team has withdrawn its No. 90 Riley/Multimatic Mk. 30 WEC LMP2 after Renger van der Zande suffered a brake-related crash that damaged the car beyond initial expectations. Although the Dutchman emerged unscathed from the high-speed crash entering Long Beach's Turn 1 corner, the carbon-fiber Mk. 30 chassis was found to have become compromised while absorbing the impact.

"Renger [van der Zande] had a brake issue going into Turn 1 and the car just wouldn't get slowed down," said VFR team owner Troy Flis. "We are relieved that he is okay, but it looks like we are done for the weekend. The damage got into the tub, and with this race being out on the West Coast, we just don't have the access to resources that we'd need to continue this weekend. It is a shame for Visit Florida, but we'll go back and look at what happened and work on our plan to come back stronger."

With the loss of the No. 90, IMSA's Bubba Burger Grand Prix will roll off with 34 cars on the grid for Saturday's 100-minute race.
