Pilet, Werner complete Porsche's Le Mans lineup
Porsche factory GT drivers Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner will join Porsche Motorsport for the 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours, filling the third seats in the #91 and #92 GTE Pro-entered 911 RSRs.
At the race, Pilet will drive with Richard Lietz and Fred Makowiecki in the #91, while Werner will drive the #92 with Dane Michael Christensen and Frenchman Kévin Estre. It will add another big endurance race to their already busy schedule driving with Porsche in the GTLM class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
“The selection of the drivers for this most important race of the year was really easy,” said Porsche Motorsport director Frank-Steffen Walliser. “Patrick Pilet and Dirk Werner are an ideal addition to our team. It is certainly an advantage that all through the races in the US they all know the car very well.
“With these drivers, we are very well positioned for Le Mans.”
The 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours will therefore mark Pilet’s fifth-straight as a Porsche GT driver in its factory GTE program, as he aims to better his personal best finish of second in class back in 2013.
For Werner, it will be his first start with the German brand at Le Mans, after racing with BMW in recent years, making his only two starts at Le Mans with it back in 2010 and 2011.
