F1 Russian Grand Prix extended through 2025
The Russian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2025.
The Sochi circuit was added to the calendar in 2014, shortly after the area was used for the Olympic Winter Games. So far it's been a Mercedes sweep, with Lewis Hamilton winning the first two races and Nico Rosberg claiming victory in 2016.
Russia's deputy prime minister Dmitry Kozak confirmed to TASS news agency that the original deal, which ran through 2020, has been extended five more years. Race promoters announced last week that VTB financial group has been added as the race's new title partner.
It's also not out of the question for the event to become a night race. Russian GP chief executive Sergey Vorobyev said in May that the government was weighing capital investment to make it a night race before 2020.
This year's Russian Grand Prix will be held on April 30.
