IMSA: Montoya to sample Risi Ferrari on Friday

Team Penske driver Juan Montoya will get a taste of the Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE on Friday during IMSA's two-day visit to Sebring International Raceway.

The two-time Indy 500 winner, who was reduced to a shortened Verizon IndyCar Series program with Penske entering 2017, is tipped to become part of the team's upcoming Daytona Prototype international program done in concert with Honda. With the Colombian's Team Penske obligations in mind, the Risi test is not a harbinger of a move to the Houston-based Ferrari program.

"It's a friendly thing we're doing with no change in drivers or positions being offered," team manager Dave Sims told RACER. "I spoke with [team owner Giuseppe] Risi and we'll make some time for Montoya on Friday."

Montoya will observe Risi drivers James Calado and Toni Vilander in the twin-turbo V8-powered Ferrari before strapping in to try the Michelin-shod GT Le Mans entry.

"He's going to arrive in the morning and we'll give him a few laps during our test session," Sims said. "It will be a sensible thing so he can get used to the car, probably 10 laps in the middle of the session."
