Hamlin, FedEx sign extensions at JGR
While details of his new contract were not disclosed, Denny Hamlin said he felt confident he would be "much grayer" before needing to work on another one.
Hamlin, along with team owner Joe Gibbs and sponsor FedEx, announced a contract extension for the No. 11 Toyota Thursday at Daytona International Speedway. The defending winner of the Daytona 500, Hamlin has driven for JGR since 2005. FedEx his served as his primary sponsor since the beginning of his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career.
"FedEx has been synonymous with the No. 11 car and Denny Hamlin for many years, and together we have enjoyed great successes on and off the racetrack," said Patrick Fitzgerald, senior vice president of FedEx Integrated and Marketing Communications.
"The FedEx Racing program provides the unique opportunity for us to engage our team members and customers, as well as make a positive impact in the community. We are proud to extend this relationship with Coach Gibbs and the entire Joe Gibbs Racing organization."
A winner of 29 Cup Series races, Hamlin has made the playoffs in 10 of his 11 full seasons. The 2010 season still ranks as the best of Hamlin's career as he won eight races and finished second in points.
"FedEx has been with me for my entire career, and I'm honored to have them continue as the sponsor of the No. 11 team," Hamlin said. "As a racer, you only dream of an opportunity to compete for wins and championships at the highest level, and I have been fortunate to do that with FedEx and JGR for more than a decade."
