Rossi crashes early in Day 2 of Phoenix testing

Less than five minutes into Saturday's practice session at Phoenix, Alexander Rossi pounded the wall exiting Turn 1 but climbed out of his wrecked car under his own power.

The 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner had just started his first hot lap of a low-downforce qualifying simulation run when his NAPA Honda snapped around in the apex of Turn 1 and slid quite a ways before backing into the SAFER barrier. The NAPA Auto Parts Dallara/Honda suffered heavy rear-end damage.

Rossi was checked and released from the infield care center.

It was the first incident of the two-day open test at Phoenix International Raceway. Live streaming of the first test session can be seen
