LIGHTS: Carlin adds Claman DeMelo

The 2017 Indy Lights field continues to grow as Zachary Claman DeMelo has been named as the newest member of Carlin Racing. The 18-year-old Montreal native returns for his second season on the final step of Mazda's Road to Indy after placing ninth in the 2016 championship with Juncos Racing.

"I am proud to announce my seat with Carlin for the 2017 Indy Lights Series!" said Claman DeMelo, who returns to Carlin after competing on the team's F3 roster in 2015. "Carlin to me, represent one of the most professional teams that strive for only the best and I've no doubt that 2017 will be a great experience."

The young Canadian will partner with American Garth Rickards and Brazilian Matheus Leist as the defending Indy Lights champions look to retain the title earned by IndyCar-bound Ed Jones.

"We are very happy to have Zach join the team for 2017," said team owner Trevor Carlin. "We've worked very successfully with Zach before and I think together we'll get some great results this year. It will be a tough field I think this season in Indy Lights, with some very strong [and] returning drivers and some quick rookies, but we're putting together a strong package and are looking forward to getting on track at St. Pete."

With the addition of Claman DeMelo, the Indy Lights grid has reached 13 cars and more drivers are expected to be announced prior to the season opener March 11-12.
