FE: Ex-Haas driver Gutierrez set for several races
Esteban Gutierrez will make a number of appearances in this year's Formula E Championship as his Formula 1 hopes for 2017 appear to be at an end.
The Mexican was dropped by Haas in favor of Kevin Magnussen after just one season with the team, with confirmation of the move coming during the Brazilian Grand Prix race weekend in November. That left Gutierrez with little time to sort another drive for the coming year, as only Manor and Sauber had vacancies at the time.

– all but ended Gutierrez's hopes of securing a spot on the F1 grid for 2017. So the 25-year-old has turned his attention to Formula E, where today it was announced he will make a number of race appearances this season.During a news conference in Mexico City on Monday it was revealed Gutierrez will take part in a "select number of races," including his home ePrix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on April 1. Formula E races on a largely oval layout in Mexico, only sharing part of the track used by Formula 1.
At present it has not been announced which team Gutierrez will race for in Formula E, but there are a number of drivers with calendar clashes to consider later in the season. World Endurance Championship drivers – including Sebastien Buemi and potentially Jose Maria Lopez – currently have a clash between the New York ePrix double-header and the 6 Hours of Nurburgring on July 16. Loic Duval also has two clashes after switching to race in DTM this year, leaving him likely to miss the Formula E races in Paris and Brussels.
The Mexico City ePrix does not clash with F1, WEC or DTM.
The announcement regarding Gutierrez's plans comes with Felipe Massa expected to return to F1 to drive for Williams. RACER understands Massa was weighing up a move to Formula E before Nico Rosberg's retirement opened the door for the Brazilian to reverse his own decision to retire.
