NASCAR: Truex Jr., Edwards fastest in final practice
Martin Truex Jr. led the final practice for Sunday's Sprint Cup finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, with Carl Edwards fastest among the title contenders.
Truex Jr. drove the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota to the top of the speed chart at 174.289mph, with Edwards just off that pace at 174.031mph. The four title contenders – Edwards, Joey Logano, Jimmie Johnson and Kyle Busch – each ran about 40 laps in the last session, with Johnson running 36 after hitting a hose on the track that brought out a brief red flag. Johnson avoided damage to the car, though, because it appeared to only hit the splitter and not get caught under the car.
Logano and Johnson were eighth and 10th, respectively. Busch has run about mid-pack all weekend, and he ended the final practice 14th fastest with a best lap of 170.924mph.
