NASCAR: Logano fastest contender in first practice
Joey Logano was fastest of the four remaining Chase contenders in the first practice session for this weekend's Sprint Cup finale at Homestead, while Ryan Newman topped the overall leaderboard.
Newman set the pace at 175.387mph in the No.31 Richard Childress Racing entry to finish ahead of Martin Truex Jr and Kyle Larson, leaving Logano fourth overall ahead of fellow championship contender Jimmie Johnson, who'd enjoyed a brief spell at the top of the charts early on before falling down the order.
Their other two title rivals, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, were eighth and ninth fastest respectively.
Qualifying is scheduled for 6:16 p.m. ET today, with another two practice sessions in the books for Saturday before the race on Sunday.
