GT: Panoz hires Milner, confirms GT4 build for Avezzano

Don Panoz has hired Tom Milner to manage Panoz Racing, and confirmed the Avezzano road car will be built to FIA GT4 specification.

Milner, whose Prototype Technology Group led the transformation of Panoz's Abruzzi model into an ALMS GT2-specification race car in 2011, started work for the Georgia-based outfit last week.

"I'm happy to be working again with my good friend Don Panoz," said Milner (LEFT). "Our goal is simple: prepare the best Avezzano GT race car we can, put together a program that will make Panoz and its fans proud, and have some fun while we're at it."

Milner will be tasked with turning Panoz Esperante-based Avezzano into a GT4 product; in North America, the car would be capable of racing in IMSA's Continental Tire Series and the Pirelli World Challenge series.

Multiple sources have placed a factory effort with the Avezzano in PWC, although Milner says Panoz Racing has yet to decide on where it will compete.

"We are examining the series opportunities here in North America as well as in Europe and elsewhere and will share that decision down the road," Milner added.

With the recent honoring of Panoz for his 20 years of contributions to motor racing, the Avezzano will serve as the only program to lead the team into its next decade of competition. Panoz's DeltaWing Racing project, which was scheduled to make its final appearance
